Who Does What?
BK Health services are based upon enhanced roles of nurses, health care assistants and patient support workers. Doctors are of course important too.
For the BK Health system to work, it is crucial that the patient gets to the correct professional, for the correct amount of time, with the correct results and letters to hand.
This sounds much easier than it actually is. However, with a bit of training, the patient services team and the triage nurses can ensure that the patient's time with the clinician is used to maximum effect.
Generally, appointments are allocated as follows:
Nurses
- Smears
- Dressings
- Immunizations
- Contraception
- Chronic disease reviews
- Urgent appointment requests (for triage)
- Minor illness
Health Care Assistants
- Blood testing
- Blood pressure check
- Urine testing
- ECG recording
- Spirometry
Doctors
- New health problems (not minor illness)
- Complex medical problems
- Problems with drugs
- Any problems where the doctor or nurse has specified a doctor review
