Bury Knowle Health Centre
Bury Knowle Health Centre is a PMS practice located in an area Oxford that includes areas of significant deprivation. The patient list size is about 11,200. The primary healthcare team includes: nurses, counsellors, psychologists, physiotherapists, health visitors, dentists, pharmacists, midwives, podiatrists and administrators. It is a teaching and training practice with a strong research and development history.
In 2001 Bury Knowle was asked by Oxford City PCT to take on a failing practice in Barton, which is a very deprived estate on the outskirts of Oxford. Previously managed by a single handed GP, the practice required intensive intervention to summarise notes, re-enchant the team and to develop the services.

Research and development at Bury Knowle
Information is a form of currency, giving power to those who possess it. A uniting theme behind all of our work at Bury Knowle has been to enable both users and providers of health services to be provided with as much “real time” information as possible, in order to help them make the best possible health-decisions. Our research and development has included work into knowledge brokering, patient participation, patient access to paper and online health records, community participation and fertility awareness (especially amongst teenagers)
