Quality & Evaluation
We want all of our practices to develop as "Learning Organisations". By this we mean organisations that are reflective; open to learning; and places where staff feel enabled to develop and learn without fear. We try to develop a culture where everyone is prepared to be creative, reflective, analytical and interpretive; and above all where people are prepared to have a go at applying their ideas, even if things don’t always work out in practice.
Our model of personal and practice development is founded upon two key features:
- It recognises the special issues of adult learning (i.e. that adults learn best when they are treated respectfully and autonomously, when their learning is practical, based on experience and relevant; and when they can self-direct their learning)
- It is based upon the reflective cycle: enabling individuals, teams and organisations to interact positively allowing progress to be made in a constructive and creative way.
Much like the personal learning cycle, we believe that the practices should follow a cycle of excellence. At the end of this cycle is the often-neglected last step: evaluation. Without evaluation, it is impossible for staff, patients or contractors to assess how well the service is performing; and what areas need further development.
Main Evaluation Areas
As part of this reflective process we set each practice 4 main evaluation areas. These are:
- Clinical services
- Human Resources
- Patient Services
- Management, Operations and Infrastructure
All BK Health sites are expected to hit maximum scores in each of these areas, and we monitor this very carefully. For example, all sites are required to complete and submit weekly and monthly reporting templates, as well as regular meetings minutes and details of any complaints or significant events.
